Someone must take a stand. I say No to Spuffy. I realize it may be unpopular, but just because Angel got his own show, doesn’t mean he and Buffy weren’t meant to be together. This ‘Spuffy’ was only a relationship of convenience, not fate.

Amen to that.

why does everyone gloss over the fact that spike tried to rape Buffy at one point? or the fact that she never actually was in love with him because she’s always been in love with Angel.

I absolutely don’t want to go in a shipper war, but these kind of arguments tend to make me want to react because it completely gloss over season 7, and the fact that the Buffy/Spike relationship has evolved and changed. Changing dynamic is a constant of their relationship. We don’t forget or gloss over the attempted rape, it was an horrible scene and an enormous mistake. But at the same time, Spike was aware of it, he felt horrible about it, and that’s why he got his soul. They forgave each other’s mistakes and grew to love and support each other, that was the point of season 7. And while a part of Buffy will always love Angel in some way (he’s her first love), to me, Buffy wasn’t in love with him anymore.  She grew, she matured and she became a woman. She’s a different person, as much as Angel is a different person. They have been through a lot separately and they fell in love with other people. That’s what happened to Buffy with Spike, she fell in love with him and he became a part of her. That’s just life…
